What is a Chakra?'Chakra' is a Sanskrit word and literally translated it means circle, wheel or ring. This word refers to a centre of energy in our astral body. In our energy system there are energy channels, like nerves, which are called Nadis. In seven points of our energetic body several channels come together and form the chakras, where then a bigger amount of energy circulates. These are our energy centers, visualized like energy circles. Each Chakra is displayed in a specific colour and has a certain number of petals of a lotus. On each petal a letter of the Sanskrit alphabet is written. One of these letters represents the main sound of that Chakra. Where are the seven Chakras?Although the chakras are often related to certain parts of the physical body, (like in the area of the heart or the solar plexus etc.) they are not identical with those organs, as the chakras are not a part of the physical body, but belong to our astral body, which is an energetic form of the physical body. There are seven main chakras. They are called: Mooladhar, Swadhishthan, Manipoor, Anahat, Vishuddhi, Aagya and Sahastrasar and each of the chakras is associated with different parts of the body as well as different emotions. By clicking on one of the chakras below you can read more about each of them. Imbalances and BlockagesOur physical body and our energy body are inseparably connected with each other. There are many reasons why our energy system and the natural flow of energy in our body can get disturbed from negative thinking to bad eating habits or stress. This creates blockages in our chakras which then also reflect in our physical body. Pain, illness but also emotional problems can be the result. How to balance the ChakrasThere are different techniques and ways to heal or cleanse your chakras of negative energy and to fill them with positive energy. When yogis practice Pranayamas or breathing techniques, they try to raise the quality of the energy vibration in their chakras. In Chakra Workshops Swami Ji and Yashendu explain exercises, breathing techniques, mudras and Mantras for balancing the energy in the chakras. In a Chakra Workshop you actively learn and participate to get to know how to balance your chakras yourself. You can also come to a Chakra Dance Party and energize and heal your chakras while dancing. In his blog about chakras Swami Balendu writes more about each chakra and gives practical examples for issues with the chakras
